About

Welcome

Neighbour’s Appliance Service is a small, family run business doing appliance repairs in Brampton and the north end of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Our primary contract is with Whirlpool Canada which composes about 90% of our business. When our family expanded, we decided to spend less time working and more time with the new child. As a technician, I now work only about 35 hours a week but could easily work 80 or more – the work is there. I run a virtual office – that is, I keep as little paper as possible. I also don’t have an office in my house. See Business Practices for information on how I do this.

Appliance Repair Field

Due to the serious shortage of appliance repair people, this is a good industry to be in. The older servicemen are retiring and there are few people wanting to replace them. With the loss of another generation to the IT field, I can only imagine that in the coming years there will be an even greater demand for good service people. Factor into that the fact that appliances – well … they keep breaking. The old saying is that there is nothing sure in life except death and taxes. That would make the two best jobs: undertaker and tax collector – good work with a steady supply of new clientel. I would add to that: appliance repair. Most every house in North America has at least 5 major appliances – and you know what? At some point, all of them will break down. When times are good, people are buying new appliances that require warranty work. When times are bad, people choose to repair their older appliances. Either way, I get the work.Contrary to popular belief, appliance repair is not a dirty job – at least not what it used to be. For the most part I am in mid to higher end kitchens where the appliances are clean and well kept. Many repairs require little more than a screwdriver and, of course, the specialized knowledge of where to apply it. The days of greasy, dirty appliances are past with many appliances now computer controlled and built using high quality plastics and well treated metals. I would urge any young person who is not getting into ‘computers’ to take a good look at our field. Good repair people are in demand, the work is satisfying and the money is great!
